Welcome to Reception

Mrs Booth, Mrs Bytheway and Miss Clarke welcome you to Reception

The Early Years (Nursey and Reception) is where our children begin to develop their skills and understanding so as to create a firm base to continue to build upon as they move throughout the school. Our children are nurtured so that they can develop the characteristics of effective learning: playing & exploring, active learning & creating, and thinking critically.

Hedgehog class is an engaging and stimulate place where children can continue to learn though play whilst starting to develop more skills through focussed teaching. They have daily Read, Write Inc. Phonics sessions which then combines with our home reading books.

Challenge Packs

Early Years Foundation Stage work using a 2-year cycle of challenge packs. This ensures that Nursery and Reception can work together and complete integration days to support the youngest pupils in the school. Running the 2 cycles also ensures that any children who move from our Nursery into our Reception have a new set of challenge packs to base their learning upon.

Summer Term

The children will then design and make their own magical world to transform an area of their school.

Ship Ahoy! – How can we discover the history and secrets of the sea? (Cycle 2)

They will also go under the sea and investigate the different habitats and the animals that live there. The children will then look at the importance of protecting the sea and the wildlife within it and look at ways they can have an impact on this environment. The children will then create an historical aquarium where they can tell the stories of the sea also inform others about how to keep it safe.
